Issue 002

27 Feb 2020

Welcome

The first version of Cline we built was a collection of resources for learning the skills needed to thrive in school and prepare for life afterwards.

We updated the format to a fortnightly publication to make it bite-sized and give you something to look forward to each time you visit.

Super thankful to everyone who reached out with their comments and feedback.

Five questions to know my career story

Eniola Aminu

Product Designer, Cowrywise

What does your day-to-day look like in this role?

I don't have a routine as it differs, but usually it consists of me being on Figma (our design tool), following up with developers to be sure we're all on the same page, coming up with design solutions for whatever it is we are trying to solve.

The favourite part of my job has to be seeing people use what I worked on.

How did you find yourself on this career path?

I got an email from Stutern in Februaury 2017 to learn UX design for a period of three months, I had just finished NYSC and I wasn't doing anything so I went ahead  to apply for the course, I got in for the course and I got my first job as a design intern at Swifta Systems In May 2018.

I worked at Swifta for a period of three months, I moved to a design agency for a while, moved to an Edutech company called Tuteria for a very short period.
I was jobless for about a month then I got a job at Cowrywise in June and I’ve been there since.

What are the biggest challenges you've had to face?

I found out that a lot of people still underestimate the power of design, It can be quite annoying having to defend your design decisions to people who think design is not very important.

What are your greatest sources of learning and inspiration?

Personally, its the money. Designers earn like crazy and I want to get that point where I earn a lot.

What would you say to anyone looking to pursue this career path?

UX/Product Design is a great career path, even better because you don't need certifications to land a job so I'd say there's really no better time to start than now. Watch that tutorial, attend that meet-up, participate in that design challenge, and keep at it.
